Ryan Payton discusses working with Yu Suzuki
« on: July 02, 2016, 06:27:59 AM »

Ryan Payton of Camouflaj joined today's edition of the Back in my Play podcast to discuss his role in Shenmue 3's revival, as well as other topics including the early Saturn version of the original Shenmue before development switched to Dreamcast.

A couple of quotes from Ryan about working with Yu Suzuki on the Shenmue 3 project:

"He is all in, he's sleeping at the office, his wife barely sees him, he is so dedicated to this, and it just warms my heart when I come into the office and just see his passion, that he's coming back and doing this thing that he set out to do so many years ago."

"We're keeping a close eye on other Kickstarter projects like that Mighty No. 9 that didn't work out so well, and that's at the top of his mind. He's aware of it, and he knows that he can't repeat those kind of same mistakes."

New backers can still support Shenmue 3's development by pre-ordering the game and a range of other rewards at shenmue.link/order

This Sunday, the campaign for re-releases of Shenmue 1 & 2 on modern platforms continues with the monthly ‪#‎SaveShenmueHD‬ Tweetathon. You can pre-load a tweet for automatic posting on the day at TeamYu.net/HD

In the days following this podcast, a fan named Yaacov has approached Ryan on Twitter for advice on giving rise to the much needed re-release of Shenmue 1 & 2 on modern hardware.

Ryan replied that "the best approach is to (nicely) bombard Sega with requests for it," wishing fans luck in doing so.

To make sure you're a part of the next #SaveShenmueHD Tweetathon, in which fans around the world converge every month to maintain this bombardment, please activate your AutoTweet at TeamYu.net/HD

Can't agree with Ryan on the English voice acting, it was great if you have an open mind.  And Corey was properly great, if I could steal a man's voice it'd be his.

Apart from that, great podcast. Ryan seems like a nice guy and is clearly passionate about the game, as is Yu Suzuki from the sounds of things. Spare a thought for Mrs Suzuki though.

Ouch at Shenmue's ebay price going up though, I hope that's not true. I sold my copies, but really wanted to carry on my Shenmue re-play through thread at some point.
